A quiet room with no house attached
Private yoga is the best-paying, most personal work a teacher can do, and the hardest to find a room for. FlexWerk at Carmel City Center rents fully private rooms by the hour: a quiet, controllable space for 1-on-1 and small-group sessions with no studio affiliation, no revenue split, no politics, and a free first hour.
Quiet hours, room fit for your teaching, or the model? A host will call you.
Why teachers outgrow studios
Studios are built for classes, not your privates
The schedule belongs to classes
Room availability for privates comes from the gaps, rarely the 6 AM and 6 PM hours your clients actually want.
The split shrinks the work
Studios take their percentage of private-session revenue, and in fitness broadly, house cuts commonly run 40 to 60 percent. Teaching the deepest work for the thinnest margin wears on people.
The politics are real
Whose clients are they? Can you announce your own offerings to people who found you through the studio's classes? Every teacher who has navigated this knows the ice underfoot.
None of this makes studios villains. They carry rent you do not, and group classes still belong there. But the moment your private book becomes your real income, you need a room with no house attached to it.
What the room gives you
For one-to-one yoga, privacy is the whole product
A FlexSpace is a self-contained private room. The honest limits first: this is a strength-and-cardio-equipped facility, not a yoga studio, so you will bring mats and props, and there is no heated-room option. The rack and dumbbells in the room, though, are quietly useful for teachers who blend mobility work with load, as more now do.
- True quiet: a door that closes, with no thudding weights beside your savasana and no class chatter bleeding through a curtain. The student who cries in pigeon pose (every teacher has one) is safe here
- Atmosphere on your terms: controllable lighting and your own music streaming, low and warm for yin, bright for power flow
- A TV/monitor and WiFi for alignment video, a virtual co-teacher, or remote privates taught from the same room
- Room to move: Standard rooms (150 sq ft, 1 or 2 guests) handle privates and duets, and Plus rooms (200 sq ft, up to 4 guests) fit a small group, a family, or a foursome of colleagues
- Filming built in: the rooms are deliberately filming-friendly, so recording sequences for online students needs no second location or lighting kit
The economics
Whole rates, zero fixed cost
Private yoga in an affluent market prices like private training, and Carmel's premium one-on-one tier commonly runs $75 to $125 or more per hour. The hourly model lets you keep that number intact: no split, so you keep 100% of what you charge, and no fixed rent, since rooms book by the hour through the FlexWerk app. A Standard room runs $18/hour and a Plus $22/hour, with the first hour free for fitness professionals. Three privates this week means three booked hours; a retreat week away means zero. Full details are on thepricing page.
Students see no door fee either: clients of instructors receive free guest access, so your rate is the only price involved. Book consecutive hours and run a morning of back-to-back privates in one room, props staying put between students. Setting that rate deliberately, and raising it as your book fills, is its own craft; thepricing guide for personal trainingapplies nearly verbatim to private yoga.
Seasonality is the quiet advantage
A private-yoga book breathes: January surges, late summer sags. Hourly booking breathes with it, so your space cost tracks your actual roster instead of demanding the same rent from your slowest month, which is precisely the failure mode of every teacher-leased studio you have watched close.

The setting sells the session
FlexWerk sits inside Carmel City Center, steps from the Monon Trail, with garage parking a short walk away: a walkable district your clients already associate with things they choose on purpose. "Meet me at my room at City Center" positions you as a practice, not a freelancer borrowing rooms. Hours fit the yoga day's real shape, 5 AM to 9 PM weekdays for dawn and evening sessions and 7 AM to 4 PM weekends for the Saturday-morning regulars. And you are not alone in the building: more than 40 fitness professionals, trainers, coaches, and movement teachers, run their businesses from these rooms, averaging about 24 sessions a week.
Common questions
Yoga teachers ask us
Can I control the atmosphere of the room?
Yes. Every room has controllable lighting and your own music streaming, plus WiFi and a TV/monitor, so you set the tone for a restorative evening session or an energetic morning flow.
How many students can I bring to a session?
FlexSpace Standard rooms host 1 or 2 guests and FlexSpace Plus up to 4, so the format covers privates, duets, and small groups, not full classes.
Do I need to bring my own props?
Yes. Rooms are equipped for strength and cardio training rather than yoga, so bring mats, blocks, and straps. Most private-yoga teachers already travel with them.
Can I teach heated formats?
No. There is no heated-room option, so hot-yoga formats stay elsewhere. Everything else about a private practice, from dawn privates to virtual sessions, fits the rooms well.
