The formula
Gross needed equals take-home divided by one minus the tax set-aside, plus yearly space costs and overhead. Price per session equals gross needed divided by sessions per year.
A worked example
$70,000 take-home with a 25 percent set-aside needs about $93,300 before tax. Twenty sessions a week for 48 weeks is 960 sessions; space at $20 each is $19,200 and overhead at $350 a month is $4,200. Gross needed is about $116,700, so the price is about $122 a session, inside the private tier but at its top, which is a signal to either add sessions or lean into a specialty that supports the number.

Before you trust the number
Why start from take-home instead of the market rate?
Because the market rate tells you what other people charge, not what you need. Working backward from the income you want, the weeks you will actually work and your real costs produces a floor you can defend.
What if the number comes out above the market?
Then the plan needs more sessions, lower costs or a premium position, not a lower number. Private, one-on-one coaching in the north metro commonly runs $75 to $125 a session, so there is room above the commercial-floor rates.
Does this include taxes?
The take-home you enter should be after tax. The tax estimator linked below shows what a 1099 year costs so you can set the target honestly.
