How the comparison works
Gross is sessions times rate. Commission keeps gross minus the gym's percentage. Fixed rent keeps gross minus rent. Hourly keeps gross minus sessions times the hourly rate. The break-even lines are where two models keep the same amount.
| Model | Monthly cost | Grows with volume? |
|---|---|---|
| Commission split | Gross times the gym's percentage | Yes, proportionally, forever |
| Fixed studio rent | The same every month, full or empty | No, which is the risk at low volume |
| Hourly space | Sessions times the hourly rate | Yes, but as a small flat fee per session |
A worked example
Fifteen sessions a week at $85 is about $5,520 a month gross. A 50 percent split keeps $2,760. A $1,500 studio keeps $4,020. Hourly space at $18 keeps $4,350. Hourly beats the split from the very first session at this rate, and the fixed studio only pulls ahead once you pass roughly 19 sessions a week.
Questions people ask
Before you trust the number
Which setup wins at low volume?
At very low session counts a commission split can cost less in dollars because you only pay when you train. The crossover usually arrives fast: at typical rates, hourly space costs less than a 40 percent split once you train more than a handful of sessions a week.
Does the hourly figure include the client?
Yes. At FlexWerk your client trains free as your guest, so the hourly rate is the whole cost of the session. You keep 100 percent of what you charge.
What about a fixed-rent studio?
A fixed monthly rent only beats hourly space when your calendar is full enough to spread it thin. The break-even planner linked below shows the exact session count where that happens.
